About the NAIP Programme

The Music Master for New Audiences and Innovative Practice provides future professional musicians with the knowledge and skills to become artistically flexible practitioners able to adjust to a wide range of societal contexts. The programme is targeting students with high-level performance skills interested in reaching new audiences by learning to develop and lead creative projects in diverse artistic, community and cross-sectoral settings. As a result, they will develop their leadership skills and collaborative practice in a variety of artistic and social contexts.

The Master is a collaborative programme offered by several higher music education institutions from countries in Europe. Students apply to one of the participating institutions as their host institution, which will also award the degree. They can choose to take a part of their studies at one of the other institutions, or by other means of exchange as agreed by the programme, depending on their need and field of practice.

The NAIP Modules

Compulsory Modules:  The Mentoring component of the NAIP programme connects all the compulsory courses that the students undertake, offers a platform for peer-learning and supports the individual study path of each student. The Introductory Course is the moment when the basic structure of the mentoring process is set. The mentoring takes place both in a group setting, as well as in individual sessions, framing the learning environment for the two year programme.

The specialisation field of each student is materialised in the Professional Integration Project (PIP), to be finalised during the last term. The remaining four compulsory courses, Performance & Communication, Leading & Guiding, Practice Based Research and Project Management & Entrepreneurship, address the student’s chosen pathway and practice from different perspectives: the leadership and creative components, the performative aspects, contextualising and reflective practices, and administrative and management components. An important phase of the development of the PIP takes place through these four compulsory courses. The students can use their project idea as a starting point for development in all four courses.

Electives: Each NAIP institution offers various electives. Students are encouraged to look up elective modules in the other NAIP institutions. Some of these are taught as intensive projects, allowing students to travel between institutions to participate in single modules.

Students are encouraged to work on projects outside the institution that are within their practice, and are supported by the mentor. These projects can be assessed as elective modules.
